A Starr County teen accused of using tire spikes to escape from authorities is behind bars where he’s expected to face a judge.

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 18-year-old Alfredo Sandoval at his Alto Bonito home on Thursday.

Sandoval is accused of leading Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies on a chase outside La Joya back on October 26th.

The Starr County teen allegedly used tire spikes to disable the patrol unit and escape.

An investigation of the incident lead deputies to Sandoval, who is now charged with aggravated assault of a public servant.

The 18-year-old is expected to be arraigned late Friday morning at the Hidalgo County Jail.

Texas State Rep. Aaron Peña (R-Edinburg) recently filed a bill to increase penalties for the use of tire spikes.

The bill remains pending in the Texas Legislature.
