Kyle and Amanda Franklin planned to bring out all their best stunts for the 2011 Air Fiesta Air Show in Brownsville during their practice run Thursday.
But on Saturday as they performed during the air show, unfortunately the stunt went terribly wrong.
"They said something about the engine shutting down, that (the pilot) was coming down at a slope and he couldn’t get back up," Audria West, a spectator said.
Like West, thousands of spectators were horrified as they watched the plane go down.
"I actually cried - it was a little traumatizing just to be so excited and then to see that happen,” West said. “I mean, I’m sure it happens, but it was a horrible experience."
Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport Director of Aviation Larry Brown said the Federal Aviation Administration is already investigating the terrible accident.
"There is research that has to be done in terms of looking at the plane, the engine, any film that may be available," Brown said.
The riders on the plane, Brown said, were rushed out of the scene alive.
However, emergency workers said the woman was rushed to a San Antonio hospital with severe burns throughout her body.
As for the pilot, he was taken to a local hospital with several burns as well.
It wasn’t the show spectators were hoping to see, but in the spirit of keeping the air show tradition alive, they said they will be back.
"We'll definitely come back,” West said. “Accidents happen everywhere but it won’t stop us from coming. It's an amazing event, we'll definitely come back next year."
