A Pharr woman is behind bars after she allegedly tried to smuggle more than $839,000 dollars worth of cocaine into the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested 30-year-old Alejandra Aguirre on federal drug charges Wednesday.
The Pharr woman drove up from Mexico at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge in a 2006 Honda Civic.
Customs officers performed a secondary inspection where they found 11 packages with 26.2 pounds of cocaine stashed inside a hidden compartment.
Authorities believe the drugs are worth $839,511 dollars on the streets.
Aguirre appeared before a U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Peter E. Ormsby in McAllen on Thursday.
Aguirre is an American citizen who lives in Pharr.
