No words can describe the pain Gregoria Salinas and her family are feeling.
On Wednesday night, her 7-year-old daughter Lupita wandered off and fell into a nearby community pool.
Her family told Action 4 News that Lupita was a special needs child, who never left home alone.
They were all together singing and dancing, which is something they say Lupita loved to do, when all of a sudden she was nowhere to be found.
Her brother and neighbor found her in the pool, pulled her out and performed CPR.
She was then take to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
While the pool was not open at the time, family members say there was a gaping hole on the side of the fence, and the gates were also left open.
Now those who knew her best, are left paying tribute, to a young girl that touched the lives of many.
Investigators with the Cameron County Sheriff's Department are ruling the girl's death as an accident.
Action4 News contacted the Cameron County Parks Director Javier Mendez to see why the pool was not properly locked.
But Mendez said he's waiting on the full investigation before releasing any statements.
Counselors at Santa Maria ISD and La Feria ISD where Lupita split her class time, will also be made available to help students and parents cope with this tragic loss.
