A flag at Del Angel Buena Vista Funeral Home in Brownsville waves at half-staff as the community comes together to pay their respects to fallen ICE Special Agent Jaime Zapata.
“I believe the response of the community has been overwhelming in support in honor of this gentlemen who served us so bravely," said Edward Camarillo a Brownsville Commissioner.
Zapata's family has been very private during this difficult time.
Friday sources close to the family announced only private funeral services that would be open to only family members, close friends and colleagues.
Robert Geough, a Harlingen resident, was at the Buena Vista Funeral Home on Saturday in attendance for another service.
He said it was hard to ignore the heavily guarded area where Zapata’s body is laying.
Still locals and officials would like to pay their respects to a man who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
“The City of Brownsville very much would like to help the family we’ve offered the Brownville Event Center for the services," said Camarillo.
The city offered their biggest venue for a public viewing for Zapata with permission from the family the city will now hold a public viewing.
A rosary service and funeral mass will be held at the Brownsville Event Center on Monday and Tuesday.
