San Juana De La Rosa was shocked when she heard what happened to her neighbor---little Dominique Longwell.

De La Rosa has five children of her own and admits that keeping an eye on them is difficult but absolutely necessary.

"I put them all in the truck or make sure they're all in the house with the door closed,” said De La Rosa. “I make sure there is an adult watching them at all times.

De La Rosa admits, even with parental supervision, children are still able to slip out of their parents grasp.

That was apparently what happened at 11120 North Bentsen Palm Drive on Monday.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office investigators said Maria De Consuelo Villarreal was backing her car out of the driveway when her 18-month-old grandson, Dominique, ran behind the vehicle.

Villarreal was still moving the car and did not see him and ran over the toddler. He later died at the hospital.

"I think it was a moment of distraction,” said De La Rosa. “I mean I really don't know."

De La Rosa can only speculate, but knows that if not extremely careful when dealing with small children, in any capacity, tragedy could strike at any moment.

"The baby was small,” said De La Rosa. “He's a baby and if he gets behind the truck how are you going to see him?"

It is a nightmare no mother or as in this case grandmother would ever imagine having to live through.

De La Rosa said all she can do to honor the memory of the little boy is take very special care of her little ones.
