A CBS News correspondent is recovering in an American hospital after being raped while covering recent events in Egypt.
CBS News reported on its website that it all happened on Friday, February 11th, the same day that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down from power.
The news network reportted that CBS chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a "60 Minutes" at the time of the incident.
Logan, her team and their security detail were surrounded by a dangerous group of men during the celebration.
CBS reported that a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy and separated Logan from her crew.
Logan was surrounded, beaten and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers.
She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning.
CBS News reported that Logan is currently in the hospital recovering.
The news network will be no further comment while Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.
