Cold front causes power failure in Port Isabel

A power failure in Port Isabel is being blamed on a cold front that pushed through the Rio Grande Valley on late Wednesday morning.

Officials told Action 4 News that power was knocked out to homes and businesses near the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities are blaming high winds, which may have knocked a utility pole.

Officials are working on restoring power but Port Isabel police and firefighters are directing traffic near the causeway.

Authorities had to place heavy sandbags at the base of makeshift

A wind advisory and freeze warning are in effect for most parts of the Valley through Thursday.
