Rolling blackouts and power failures due to the freezing weather are wreaking havoc on traffic signals across the Rio Grande Valley.

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) officials confirmed that crews have been busy on Wednesday with reports of non-functioning traffic signals.

Crews have received reports in Edinburg, Mission, McAllen, San Juan, Brownsville, South Padre Island and Port Isabel.

Several of these traffic signals have been restored as of Wednesday afternoon.

TxDOT is working with local law enforcement agencies and cities to identify locations of traffic signals affected by the power outages.

The public is encouraged to report any concern with traffic signals on state roadways to TxDOT at 1-800-558 9368 (1-800-55 TxDOT) or call the local law enforcement agency.

TxDOT reports that all roads in the Brooks, Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Kenedy, Starr, Willacy and Zapata Counties are open to traffic.

TxDOT crews have unfolded the "Ice on Bridge" signs on state maintained bridges and maintenance personnel is ready with equipment and material in the event that ice begins to form on our roads and bridges.

Officials provided the following advice for motorists during icy road conditions:

• Slow down and drive to the appropriate weather condition
• Leave a good distance between you and the driver in front of you.
• Keep up with the weather and road conditions
• For State Road Conditions visit the TxDOT website  www.txdot.gov/roadconditions or call 1-800-452-9292.
• Buckle up and Don’t drink and drive
