Raymondville nursing home fire prompts evacuation

At least 52 elderly people are looking for a place to stay following a Sunday night fire at a Raymondville nursing home.

Raymondville fire department officials told Action 4 News it all happened at a nursing home at the corner of FM 3168 and Expressway 77 on Sunday night.

Rescuers reported that all 52 patients had been safely evacuated from the building. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters had extinguished the fire but are still investigating what caused the blaze.

Officials the Rio Grande Valley's Red Cross are working to open a shelter or find a place for the elderly patients to stay.

The nursing home is located across the expressway from the Willacy County jail.
