Mixed sentences of prison time, probation and fines were handed down in the PSJA Independent School District bribery scandal.

All six defendants appeared before U.S. District Judge Ricardo Hinojosa at 2 p.m. Monday for sentencing in the case.

Judge Hinojosa sentenced the first defendant, Rogelio "Roy" Rodriguez, to 37 months in prison.

The judge is allowing Rodriguez to remain free on bond until his Monday, March 14th prison assignment date.

Judge Hinojosa handed down the following sentences in the case:

Rodriguez and the other five all pleaded guilty in the roles in a scheme to accept bribes in order to award construction

They were all supposed to be sentenced back in November but Judge Hinojosa postponed the sentencing to clear some legal questions.

Court records show that three sealed documents were filed in the case during December and January.

Judge Hinojosa is currently taking hearing testimony in the sentencing for Raul "Roy" Navarro. The rest are expected to follow this afternoon.

Former Superintendent Arturo Guajardo is asking for probation instead of prison time and showed letters of support from several Rio Grande Valley politicians.
