Mexican authorities have confirmed that three gunmen are dead following a shootout south of the border in Valle Hermoso.
Mexico’s Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) reported that the deadly shootout took place on Monday.
According to a statement released on Monday, soldiers were patrolling downtown Valle Hermoso when they came under fire at Calle Sexta and Calle Victoria.
SEDENA officials reported that three gunmen from an organized criminal group were killed during the battle.
Soldiers seized nine assault rifles, one handgun, ammunition, four vehicles and other items.
Authorities did not release names of those who had been killed but the case remains under investigation.
Valle Hermoso is located south of the Los Indios International Bridge or about 40 minutes south of Harlingen.
