Two men are behind bars after authorities seized a shipment of AK-47 assault rifles that were allegedly bound for Mexico.

Hidalgo police pulled over the two men for an alleged traffic violation on Wednesday.

The officers noticed suspicious activity and called U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents for assistance.

Authorities took their car to the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge where customs officers used an imaging machine and found the 15 assault rifles hidden in the fuel tank.

Both men are behind custody under state firearms charges.

Investigators said the serial numbers to the AK-47s but ICE agents try to trace the weapons back to their point of origin.
