Mexican authorities are reporting that a Zetas drug cartel member arrested at the Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge was part of a group that stole oil and gasoline from a PEMEX pipeline and sold it to clients in the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protections (CBP) officers arrested Jose Eduardo Aleman-Chavez at the Donna bridge on Wednesday after learning he was wanted for warrants in Mexico.
American officials handed the 36-year-old Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas man over to Mexican authorities on Thursday.
Mexico's Attorney General's Office (PGR) reported on Friday that Aleman-Chavez was part of a Zetas group that illegally siphoned gas and oil from government-owned PEMEX pipelines.
The PGR reported that Aleman-Chavez is part of a Zetas group that stole oil and gasoline from a PEMEX pipeline and the sell it to clients in the United States.
Aleman-Chavez is being held at the CEFERESO No. 5 "Oriente" Prison in Veracruz but faces prosecution in the State of Nayarit.
The PGR reports that the group's leader Miguel Angel Almaraz-Maldonado is also being prosecuted in the case.
