Skeletal remains found behind Harlingen Humane Society

Authorities are investigating the death of a person whose skeletal remains were found behind the Harlingen Humane Society.

Harlingen police told Action 4 News the discovery was made Monday afternoon.

Investigators are currently in a field behind the humane society, which is located at 1103 Markowsky Avenue.

Humane Society workers told Action 4 News that the field belongs to City of Harlingen.

The humane socieity workers said city workers were in the field when they saw a hand sticking out of the tall grass.

The workers reportedly went in for a closer look and found human remains.

Harlingen police aren't releaseing much information about the case.

Cameron County Justice of the Peace Sallie Gonzalez was called to the scene where she ordered an autopsy.

Action 4 News will provide more information as it becomes available.
