A little boy with a cranial defect is in town visiting relatives, and this week, he's been searching for his Christmas wish.
It's a wish his dad only agreed to grant him if he accomplished an important goal.
"I want a 7 piece drum set," said Mathew Martinez.
Mathew was born with a cranial defect, a hole at the bottom of his skull.
He's partially blind, so his hearing senses have developed more compared to others.
Mathew's father Evan said Mathew had major cranial surgery at 11 months and coded twice.
"He passed away twice and God brought him back and left him here for a reason," said Evan.
Evan thinks that God gave Mathew a gift, and that gift might just be a talent for music.
Dad wants to do everything possible to nurture that skill.
"He's very instrumental," said Evan.
Evan said along with Mathew's cranial defect, Mathew has a growth deficiency.
His pituitary gland is missing, and he has to take growth hormones as a result.
He also needs to watch his weight, so this Christmas dad came up with a motivation to help Mathew reach this goal.
"Not eating no chips," said Mathew.
The bet was for him to lose the chips in his diet, and if he accomplished that goal, he would get his wish.
"That's why we're out and around looking for a drum set," said Evan.
Dad said Mathew lost about 6 pounds.
"Lose some pounds, and you get a drum set. So I think this would be a good time," said Evan.
For Mathew the drum set is a dream come true.
