More than five and a half pounds of cocaine and heroin are off the streets after a traffic stop in Los Fresnos.

Agents with Brownsville’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) task force arrested 39-year-old Jose Alfredo Araguz and 30-year-old Aide Guerrero-Garcia on Wednesday.

Court records released on Thursday show that authorities pulled over Araguz and a Guerrero-Garcia while they were in a Pontiac Montana.

Los Fresnos police arrested Araguz for outstanding traffic tickets while a search of the car revealed 2.82 pounds of cocaine and 2.79 pounds of heroin.

The two were held overnight in the Brownsville City Jail and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville on Thursday morning.

Court records show that Araguz lives off Track 43 Road near Los Fresnos but home address information was not immediately available for Guerrero-Garcia.

Judge Recio denied bond for both of them until a Monday afternoon hearing.
