Elsa Police Chief Domingo Rodriguez has been reassigned following an Action 4 News investigation that revealed he is not a licensed peace officer.

City officials told Action 4 News that Rodriguez remains at the police department but has been moved to another job.

Rodriguez was appointed as police chief in November 2009 and had year to become a licensed peace officer.

State records revealed that Rodriguez took classes but never got his license.

City leaders said they could have been fined $1,000 dollars a day if they let Rodriguez continue as police chief.

The city commission appointed Officer Jesse Diaz as interim police chief around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Diaz worked as a prison guard, a Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputy and the last six years as an Elsa police officer.
