A Houston man is behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley after he allegedly robbed a Dollar General store in Weslaco on Wednesday night.
Weslaco police arrested 26-year-old Courtney D. Sargent on aggravated robbery charges.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Sargent walked into the Dollar General at 1603 West Business 83 and tried to buy snacks with a fake $20 dollar bill believed to be play money.
Sargent allegedly took out a black handgun and told the clerk, "Give me the money from the *** box."
The 26-year-old man fled the scene with his gun, fake bill and snacks.
A patrol officer spotted Sargent at a nearby Stripes store on Busines 83.
Investigators later found clothes he wore during the robbery outside the store and then found his gun in a construction area.
A motive for the roberry is not clear but police found a note that investigators believe he planned to use during the robbery:
"STAY CALM, I HAVE A GUN. PUT THE MONEY IN THE BAG AND NOBODY WILL BE KILLED. THERE IS A CAR RIGGED WITH EXPLOSIVES PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT. IF YOU ATTEMPT TO TRACK ME, OR TRICK ME I WILL DETONATE IT AND KILLING EVERYONE WITH IN 12,000 YARDS IT HAS A RANGE OF 30 MILES, SO NO TRACABLE BILLS, DYE PACKETS, OR ELECTRONIC DEVICES. PLEASE PLACE THIS NOTE INSIDE THE BAG OF THE MONEY"
Sargent appeared before a Weslaco Municipal Court judge on Thursday morning where he was issued a $200,000 dollar bond.
