Federal prosecutors have filed a civil suit to officially seize more than $3.1 million dollars in cash taken from a tour bus headed into Reynosa back in September.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in McAllen filed the forfeiture lawsuit shortly before Thanksgiving.

Court records show that 14 people aboard a Tierra Caliente bus were arrested at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge back in September.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers found $3,194,173 dollars in cash stuffed inside air mattresses and inside their luggage.

The criminal cases remain pending but prosecutors have filed the forfeiture lawsuit for the money claiming it was all profits from the sale of illegal drugs in the United States.

Court records show that prosecutors a hearing in the case is scheduled for February 10th.
