State trooper injured in two-vehicle accident

A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state trooper and a prisoner are recovering in the hospital after an auto accident involving the trooper's SUV.

DPS spokesperson Johnny Hernandez said it happened at the intersection of FM 511 and Paredes Line Road in Brownsville around 8 p.m. Friday.

Hernandez said the driver of a Dodge Neon ran a red light and caused the trooper's SUV to roll over.

The trooper was transporting a suspect to the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center when the Dodge Neon hit his patrol SUV on the passenger side.

The patrol SUV flipped over. Both the officer and suspect were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the neon was not injured but two  passengers in that car were taken to the hosptial.

The case remains under investigaion.
