EDINBURG, TEXAS (AP) -- A judge has ordered 15 years in prison for a man behind an acid attack on an Alamo teacher he formerly dated.

Eugenio Martinez of Austin had pleaded guilty to aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison.

Martinez was sentenced to five years in prison for tampering with evidence. The sentences will be served concurrently.

Prosecutors say Martinez paid accomplices to throw acid in the face of Lorena De la Cruz. She suffered sulfuric acid burns in the April 13 attack.

De la Cruz teaches at North Alamo Elementary School.
