SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- The manual recount U.S. Democratic Rep. Solomon Ortiz demanded in South Texas has yet to cut into his opponent's slim lead.

Ortiz spokesman Jose Borjon said Tuesday that Kenedy County officials recounted about 300 ballots without changing Blake Farenthold's lead of nearly 800 votes.

Authorities in four other counties have scheduled recounts this week.

Ortiz has represented Texas' 27th Congressional district since 1982.

He trails Farenthold by 799 votes, but the deficit fell to 792 after seven ballots supporting Ortiz were found after the election.

Ortiz paid a deposit of $23,500 for the recount. Borjon said the money came from Ortiz supporters and the Democratic Party, not campaign funds.
