Mission chase ends with SUV plunging into Rio Grande

A high-speed chase ended with an alleged drug smuggler plunging his SUV into the Rio Grande south of Mission.

Investigators said it all started around midnight Friday.

The SUV was involved in a high speed chase with TexasDepartment of Public Safety state troopers.

A U.S. Border Patrol spokesperson said the SUV plummeted into the Rio Grande near Chimney Park in Mission.

Authorities were not sure if the person driving the vehicle made it out.

US Border Patrol agents and Mission Police Department pulled the Chevrolet Suburban from the Rio Grande River early Saturday aftenoon.

No one was found inside the Chevy Suburban but agents seized multiple bundles of marijuana.
