BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (AP) -- University of Texas System regents have voted to end a 20-year-old partnership with a Lower Rio Grande Valley college district.

The relationship resulted in the University of Texas at Brownsville-Texas Southmost College.

A UT System statement says regents voted Wednesday to end the agreement with the Texas Southmost College District after months of negotiations failed to reach agreement on new terms.

According to the statement, UT System officials will phase out its involvement with TSC over the next four years and work out plans for UT-Brownsville's future.

A message left with a Texas Southmost College District spokeswoman by The Associated Press on Wednesday wasn't returned.
