Authorities are performing DNA tests to determine if a body found on Tuesday in Brownsville could be that of a missing 78-year-old man from Primera.

Family members of Tomas Herrera reported him missing back in early September.

They said he suffered from diabetes and dimentia and was last seen driving his truck.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials issued a Silver Alert for him that ended without success.

Brownsville police were called to a brushy area off the 6900 block of Old Alice Road on Tuesday afternoon when a cell phone tower work crew found a decomposed body.

The body was found with a vehicle.

Primera police told Action 4 News on Wednesday morning that the vehicle found with the body was Herrera's missing truck.

Investigators said body found in Brownsville appears to have been decomposing for at least two months time, matching the time period Herrera went missing.

Authorities are performing DNA tests to see if that body is that of Herrera.
