Good news for outdoorsmen. The Harlingen Economic Development Corporation tells Action 4 News that despite the hearsay Bass Pro Shops is coming to Harlingen.

EDC Board President Terry Gray said there have been a few hold-ups, but plans for the $30 million project are underway.

Gray said that the EDC, contractors and the privately owned Bass Pro Shop have been working continuously on the contract details.

He also said the EDC would've liked to have seen ground breaking in September, but they are moving forth carefully to ensure tax payers' best interest.

“Bass Pro Shop is going to occupy almost 25 acres, then you have a shopping mall that's going to go around it,” Gray said. “So you have to have agreements back and forth between the developer, and the obviously the landlord which is (the Harlingen EDC) and of course Bass Pro Shops."

Gray said the target date for opening of the Bass Pro Shop is Fall 2011.
