A 14-year-old girl is dead after being hit by a car while trying to cross U.S. Highway 281 on foot.
Pharr police told Action 4 News that it all happened on Highway 281 near Sioux Road around 10 p.m. Saturday.
Investigators said the 14-year-old girl was crossing the highway when she was hit by a car headed north on the inside lane.
Investigators told Action 4 News that a 24-year-old Edinburg woman was driving a Ford Mustang when she hit the 14-year-old girl.
Police said the 14-year-old girl died at the scene.
Neither the identies of the 14-year-old girl nor the 24-year-old woman are being released at this time.
Investigators said the 24-year-old woman remained at the scene of the accident.
Police said the 14-year-old girl was headed from the east side of the highway to the west side of the highway.
Police are not saying who the girl was with or where her parents were at the time of the accident but the case remains under investigation.
