Eight people have been freed from an alleged Zetas kidnapping ring south of the border near San Fernando.
It all happened in the town of Santa Apolonia on Tuesday.
In a statement released Thursday, the Mexican Navy reported it had received information about the kidnapping victims and armed men driving in vehicles.
Patrols on ground and in the air were able to locate the vehicles at an abandoned house.
Marines arrived and rescued the eight alleged kidnapping victims.
No arrests were reported but the Mexican Navy reports it believes the Zetas are responsible for the abductions.
Authorities seized assault rifles, ammunition, bulletproof vests, six vehicles, radio equipment and rockets from the property.
No information about was available about the kidnapping victims but the Mexican Navy reports they are receiving medical treatment before interviewed by investigators.
San Fernando is about two to three hours south of Matamoros.
The city has been a hotspot for violence in an ongoing battle between the Zetas and their former allies the Gulf Cartel.
Back in August, authorities found the bodies of 72 Central and South American immigrants in a ranch outside San Fernando.
Authorties blamed the Zetas for the incident made several arrests in the case.
