An alleged drug dealer is facing multiple criminal charges after authorities found marijuana plants being grown in his 4-month-old daughter’s bedroom.

Cameron County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested 23-year-old Brownsville resident Carlos Alberto Moreno on Monday.

Court records released Thursday show that the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Unit received a tip that drugs were being sold from his Glenbrook Drive home.

Investigation

Deputies stopped and arrested a man who had cocaine after leaving Moreno’s apartment.

Court records show the man had close to an ounce of cocaine hidden in his groin.

Deputies saw Moreno and his wife leave their home and stopped them at the IBC Bank off Boca Chica Boulevard and Padre Island Highway.

Court records show that Moreno’s wife told deputies that were drugs inside their home and agreed to a consent search.

The Search

A search of the couple’s home yielded drugs and a handgun with the serial number scratched off.

Deputies found about 9 ounces of cocaine and almost one ounce in ecstasy pills in their home.

Investigators found marijuana being grown in their 4-month-old daughter’s bedroom.

Court records show there was an intense marijuana odor inside the home but that the couple also had three dogs living inside their home.

Deputies wrote that urine and feces could be found throughout the couple’s home making it very unsanitary for their baby.

Criminal Charges

Investigators reported releasing Moreno’s wife because she could not find anyone to take care of their baby.

But court records show that she’s expected to face charges at a later time.

Deputies charged Moreno with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, child endangerment and tampering with an ID number.

Moreno appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Patricia Edelstein on Tuesday morning where he was issued $60,000 dollars in bonds.

Cameron County Jail records show that Moreno posted bond on Tuesday.
