Seven officers and another person are wounded following an early Wednesday morning attack on a police station south of the border in Ciudad Madero.
It's all happened around 6:55 a.m. Wednesday.
Authorities reported that a gunmen showed up to the police station and opened fire on the face of the building.
The gunmen threw four grenades but only two of exploded.
The Liberal En Linea newspaper reported that hundreds of school children were waiting for school buses nearby.
None of the children were hurt but seven police officers and another person inside the building were wounded. The extent of their injuries was not available.
Mexican soldiers and marines searched the area for the suspects but could not find anyone.
This is the latest incident in Ciudad Madero, where the Gulf Cartel and los Zetas are fighting for control of the area.
Workers at City Hall reportedly fled the building on October 12th after receiving an anonymous telephone call that there would be an attack.
Ciudad Madero is located along the Gulf of Mexico near Tampico and is about an eight hours drive south of Matamoros.
