A San Benito man is behind bars for having a sexual relationship with 13-year-old girl he met on a phone chat line.
Cameron County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested 23-year-old Julian Hernandez on an aggravated sexual assault charge on Friday.
Court records show the Hernandez and the 13-yearold Lozano girl met on a phone chat line.
The girl’s father told deputies that she ran away from home to be Hernandez back in September.
The girl told deputies that she had been staying with Hernandez at his Stenger Street home in San Benito.
Court records show that the girl told Hernandez that she was 16 years old and that they had sex numerous times.
Record show that Hernandez has previous arrests for DWI and driving with an invalid license.
The 23-year-old San Benito man appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Patricia Edelstein on Saturday morning.
Judge Edelstein issued a $100,000 dollar bond in the case.
Hernandez remained at the Cameron County Jail as of Monday morning.
If convicted, Hernandez could face 5 to 99 years inprison and/or a $10,000 dollar fine.
