Authorities have revealed that a public corruption investigation is underway at Palmview City Hall.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said in a statement released on Monday that his Public Integrity Unit is investigating several complaints.
Sheriff Treviño reported that deputies are investigating reports of misuse of public funds by elected officials and other City of Palmview employees.
The sheriff said the investigation focuses on the abuse of city credit cards.
Sheriff Treviño reported that grand jury subpoenas have been issued and executed for financial records.
Treviño said other criminal investigations may be launched following the outcome of this case.
“The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Public Integrity Unit has not developed any suspects this early in the investigation nor is it ready to make a determination that any laws were broken,” Sheriff Treviño said in the statement. “Our finding will be presented to a state grand jury for possible indictments.
Treviño said Palmview City Manager John Alanis has officially been notified of the criminal investigation and is cooperating fully.
