Mexicans authorities are urging caution following a gun battle outside Reynosa's largest newspaper.

Sources told Action 4 News that a gun battle erupted on the Carretera Ribereña around 9:40 p.m. Sunday.

The five to seven minute battle took place in front of the El Mañana newspaper building.

Reynosa city officials sent out an alert around 9:50 p.m. Sunday asking area residents to avoid the highway.

Authorities were still sending out alerts as late as 11:30 p.m. Sunday reporting that the situation of risk still continued.

Sources said nobody was harmed inside the newspaper although there was concern about a bullet entering the building.

The sources said Mexican soldiers were seen on the highway.

It's not clear what happened but one witnesses reported on Twitter that she had to run from the gunfire for her safety.

Information about the shootout was not released on El Mañana's website on Sunday night.

The gun battle reportedly did not affect production of the newspaper.

The Monday edition is expected to be at newstands on both sides of the border in the morning.
