Mexican officials are reporting the weekend arrests of 10 members of the Zetas drug cartel in Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas.
Mexican Navy officials it all started when marines came under fire by members of the Zetas in Santa Catarina, Nuevo Leon on Thursday.
An aerial search of the area led to the arrests of ten of the cartel's members.
Authorities identified the men as:
Fernando Flores López (a) “El Babas”
Daniel Rodríguez Morales (a) “El Dany”
Ranulfo Rangel Quintero
Mario Eduardo Castillo Grimaldo (a) “El Mono”
Erick Alberto Yepes Ramírez (a) “El Beto”
Carlos Alejandro Rangel Martínez (a) “El Cadete”
Orlando Nájera Mandoza (a) “El Sorullo”
Rogoberto Elías García (a) “El Tata”
Carlos Alberto Ovalle Hipólito (a) “El Nano”
José Lorenzo Rangel Aguillan (a) “El Mancho”
Mexican Navy officials also reported seizing three assault rifles, two handguns, ammunition, cocaine, marijuana, one vehicle and communications equipment.
All 10 men remain in custody where they face federal charges.
The Zetas drug cartel used to be the enforcer arm for the Gulf Cartel but has since gone indendependent.
