A Harlingen man has been arrested following a grenade scare in a neighborhood just west of downtown.
Action 4 News was there when the man barricaded himself inside a home off West Monroe Avenue and North E Street Friday evening.
Police removed the man from the home and took him into custody where he's expected to face child endangerment charges.
Harlingen police told Action 4 News that the incident started around 4:45 p.m. Thursday on the 500 block of West Monroe Avenue.
Neighors told Action 4 News that a homeless man grabbed an 11-year-old boy and put something in his backpack.
The boy's family said they looked inside and found what appeared to be a grenade.
Police, firefighters and other public safety officials have sealed off the street. Neighbors were temporarily evacuated as a precaution.
Investigators told Action 4 News that the Brownsville Police Department bomb squad was to the scene.
Authorities located the suspect at a nearby home where he reportedly barricaded himself inside.
Police removed him from the home and took him into custody where he's expected to face child endangerment and possibly other criminal charges.
Invesitgators did not release the man's identity but he appeared to be African-American.
Neighbors told Action 4 News that they believe the man might have mental health issues.
