Hidalgo police said they have foiled a possible drug smuggling attempt at a river levee on the city's eastside.

It all happened on a levee between South McColl and Jackson Roads around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Details were not immediately available but Hidaglo police confirmed that the incident involved narcotics.

Border Patrol agents and Texas Department of Public Safety state troopers were called to the scen for assistance.
