An alleged MySpace love connection lands an Edinburg man behind bars.

Investigators in Brownsville charged Gregorio Trujillo Mendez, 34, “this morning on two counts of sexual assault of a child” said police spokesman Eddie Garcia.

Mendez, of Edinburg, is accused of meeting a 15-year-old boy on the social network MySpace.  Police said “he eventually made arrangements to meet at a local retail store parking lot before going to a hotel.”

It’s unknown how many sexual encounters occurred, but police said the parent’s of the boy learned of the improper relationship from a doctor.

Police said the 15-year-old was having problems urinating.  The parents took the boy to the doctor.  Police say he was diagnosed chlamydia which is a sexually transmitted diseased.

The parents didn't know their child was sexually active.

Police say the 15-year old then came clean about the relationship with 34-year-old Mendez.  “The boy claims he didn’t tell the man his age” said Garcia.

We are also told the boy stated he would still be in the relationship if he did not contract an STD.

Both the victim and the suspect are cooperating with police.

Mendez is being held on a $100,000 bond.
