Authorities are investigating a gruesome discovery in Starr County.

Starr County Sheriff Rene Fuentes said a decapitated body was discovered floating in the Rio Grande River this morning.

“The body had been in the river for eight to 10 days," Sheriff Fuentes said.

Investigators believe the body came from Mexico and floated across the river near Rio Grande City.

“We believe it is a murder,” said the Sheriff.

The body had no head, but was fully-clothed.

Sheriff Fuentes said deputies did not find any identification on the victim’s body.

An autopsy has been ordered.

Action 4 News asked if the body was linked to a missing person’s report, but at this time deputies are saying there is no match.
