Not even a month has passed since the mayor of La Joya went door-to-door handing out FEMA fliers to flood victims.
Going back to these homes today---you will see carpet ripped up and boards replaces as people try to put their lives back together.
"FEMA helped us a little,” said Dora Alaniz. “That’s how we were able to hire someone to fix the floor in our home—but there’s still a lot to be done.”
Alaniz said she worries about the storm and what will happen if it floods again.
“We won’t have anywhere to go,” said Alaniz.
But with Tropical Storm Hermine’s fast pace and projected path—it looks like Alaniz and her family could be out of harms way
"The good thing about this storm is that it will not affect the river and dams,” said Hidalgo County Emergency Manger Tony Peña. “It will give us some rainfall and wind in Hidalgo County.”
Even so—Peña says it is important for people to continue taking precaution’s considering storms are unpredictable.
