Shelters for Tropical Storm Hermine open in Reynosa, Matamoros

Authorities have set up three shelters to received flood victims from Tropical Storm Hermine south of the border in Reynosa and Matamoros.

Officials told Action 4 News that shelters that three shelters have being set up the following locations:

- Gimnasio UAT, Unidad Rodhe
- Gimnasio UAT, Unidad Aztlán
- Gimnasio de la UMAN

Reynosa officials said they are prepared but do not believe Hermine will cause as much damage as Hurricane Alex.

Authorities in Matamoros have set up two shelters in Matamoros:

- Unidad Deportiva, Alberca Chávez
- 1Centro de Convenciones Mundo Nuevo

Matamoros officials expect at least 1,500 people tonight.

Many of the evacuees are expected to come from the coastal communities of Playa Bagdad, Las Higeuerillas and El Mezquital.

Both Matamoros and Reynosa are still dealing with flood damage from Hurricane Alex, which tore through the region in late June.
