Brownsville moms and dads called for action after a little boy wandered into a pond at a popular park and nearly drowned.

They want the city to protect the youth from tragedy there.

14-year-old Manuel Alaniz said he was there Monday night when a six-year-old boy fell into the pond, and if it wasn't for him and a few parents that were there, the child could have drowned.

Manuel said it all happened near the soccer fields at the Brownsville Sports Park...

There's a playground nearby where small children frequently play, and just feet away, there's a pond with easy access.

Manuel said he was on the see-saw when he saw the little boy in the water and a kid reaching for him.

"And then I looked at other people and they were barely reacting too slow like what do we do? So that's when I ran over there, threw down my phone first and then I was there for two seconds thinking whether I should take off my shoes or not and so I took off my shoes and jumped in for him," said Alaniz.

Manuel said it was a struggle for him to get back out of the water with the child, but with the help of a few parents at the park, they were both safely pulled out of danger.
