A controversy is brewing in the City of Mission where some residents are upset about the handling of portions of land that make up a local hike and bike trail.
The land has become a bicyclist’s paradise drawing enthusiasts from across the Rio Grande Valley and northern Mexico.
Users say outdoor trails that go for miles through the brush are the attraction.
But some say that's where the problem lies.
The city wants to sell portions of the land with the primitive bike trails made by local bike clubs.
Riders are hoping to put the brakes on plans to lease portions of the club to a local skeet club.
Mission's city manager told Action 4 News that the city owns the property and put more than $1 million dollars into the trail.
Cerda said the money trails made by the bicycle clubs were not part of the plans for the park and the city reserves the right to make changes at any time.
