San Benito man jailed for sexual relationship with 12-year-old girl

A San Benito man is behind bars after being arrested for having a sexual relationship with a girl almost half his age.

San Benito police arrested 23-year-old Joshua Jay Villarreal on an aggravated sexual assault of a child charge on Tuesday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a 12-year-old girl’s father had pressed charges against Villarreal.

Police said the 12-year-old girl and Villarreal had gone to a hotel in July.

The girl’s father found out and questioned her about it.

Police said  who admitted to going to the hotel with him but denied having sexual contact.

Investigators told Action 4 News that he didn’t intend to do it but the girl liked him and one thing lead to another.

Villarreal remained in the Cameron County Jail on Thursday morning under a $25,000 dollar bond.
