It has been two weeks since a burglar started crashing through the ceilings of San Juan businesses.
Maria Ibarra’s store, Unique’s off of Nolano, was one of those hit by the rooftop burglar.
“I was like ‘oh my God’….it was just terrible,” said Ibarra.
She said the suspect only got away with a few nickels and dimes---but left her with five-hundred dollars worth of damages.
This was not the first time Ibarra’s store was broken into….she said just a year ago someone broke in and stole numerous dresses.
She said after that she did not have to think twice before putting in a surveillance system.
"I told my family…I’m not going to take this again," said Ibarra.
Now Ibarra has cameras monitoring every angle of the store.
Because of those cameras, Ibarra was able to capture the suspect in the act.
This is something the San Juan police department is taking into consideration.
Sgt. Rudy Luna told Action 4 news that they are steps closer to passing an ordinance that would require businesses to install surveillance systems.
“It helps us get a lead on these burglaries,” said Luna.
Sgt. Luna said it takes up a lot of time and resources when they have nothing to go on.
"We do have to start from scratch as far as the investigation," said Luna.
Cristobal Rodriguez, Jr. has owned La Especial bakery in San Juan for 44 years.
He said, while he does not have a surveillance system, he would be more than willing to comply with an ordinance that required the installation of cameras.
"If they yes you have to do it--we will do it," said Rodriguez.
As for Ibarra, she hopes the video given to police will help catch the man who cost her hundreds of dollars in damages.
