Flood water from Hurricane Alex is still making its way down the Rio Grande weeks after the Category One storm rolled across northern Mexico.

The International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) announced on Thursday morning that it will be reducing the amount of water released from Falcon Dam.

By Thursday afternoon, the flow rate will be at 49,000 cubic feet per second, compared to the previous 60,000.

The IBWC plans to eventually get the number down to 42,000 by Tuesday, August 3.

The water level in the Rio Grande should remain at its current level because of Mexico’s floodwaters being released from dams in the San Juan River.

The National Weather Service continues its river flood warning for Starr County, along with a river flood advisory for Hidalgo County.
