The Speedzapper put down his radar gun for a non-traditional approach to “zapping” drivers.

The focus this week was on motorists who illegally drove around road barricades to watch the flood water north of Santa Rosa.

Signs along FM 506 just north of FM 2556 are clearly posted as “road closed.”

We caught dozens of drivers ignoring the signage Tuesday afternoon to catch a glimpse of a portion of the North Floodway.

Deputies with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department said the act is the same thing as not obeying an officer’s command.

A spokesperson with the Texas Department of Transportation outlined the punishment a driver could face as a fine anywhere from $200-$1000 and or up to 2 years in jail.
