A Santa Rosa man is facing criminal charges after he allegedly planned to rape a woman in a remote area and lead police on chase that ended with him being tasered. Harlingen police arrested 27-year-old Moises de la Garza under several charges on Saturday.

An officer parked along U.S. Expressway 83 and the Stuart Place Road overpass spotted a woman flagging him down and trying to get out of a moving car. The officer followed the car but De la Garza led the officer on a chase that ended with him crashing into a ditch off Altas Palmas and Rodeo Drive. De la Garza ran out of the car and into a sorghum field where the 27-year-old allegedly came after the officer with clenched fists. The officer tasered De la Garza and arrested him. The woman told police that De la Garza planned to take her to remote area and rape her.

Court records show De la Garza was arrested under the following charges:
• Attempted Sexual Assault
• Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle
• Evading Arrest on Foot
• DWI Open Container

De la Garza also had several municipal court warrants from 2003 worth $778 dollars:
• No Driver’s License
• No Auto Insurance
• No Seat Belt
• Failure To Appear

The Santa Rosa man appeared before Harlingen Municipal Court Judge Rudy Mares on Sunday where he received $21,000 dollars in bonds.
