Good weather had many Rio Grande Valley families headed out to Falcon Dam this weekend.
Flooding from Hurricane Alex and Tropical Depression Two has swollen reservoirs and rivers on both sides of the border.
The International Boundary & Water Commission reported that water levels at Falcon Lake reached a record-setting height of 309.31 feet about sea level early Saturday afternoon.
Authorities opened Falcon Dam's floodgates starting last week to release water from the reservoir.
Many families from the Valley, Zapata and Tamaulipas drove out to the dam over the weekend to get a look and hear the roar of the water.
Many of them took pictures and recorded videos on everything from cameras to cell phones.
Karen Fuentes said her father brought her and her family from Alamo to see it for themselves.
The 18-year-old said she was impressed but wasn't sure if she would ever see the water like this again.
"I don't know...I guess it depends on how the hurricane season goes...but yeah...it's pretty impressive," Fuentes said.
There are two parking lots on the American side of the dam, so it's not necessary to cross into Mexico to see the water roaring from the floodgates.
Sidewalks, railing and fencing allow visitors to safely see both the floodgates and the spillway.
Visitors must still go through a customs checkpoint after returning from the dam.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers said to bring a passport or photo identifications with a birth certificate.
