Bacteria counts at Boca Chica Beach reach high levels this morning, according to Jim Suydam with the Texas General Land Office.
Suydam says getting in the water could to an upset stomach if the water is swallowed.
He says high bacteria in bodies of water is common after heavy rains.
“It brings everything from people’s backyards, from storm sewers, everything washes to the ocean, eventually to the Gulf,” says Suydam.
Suydam says bacteria levels may lower in a few days, and beachgoers can monitor levels at www.texasbeachwatch.com.
